Fattoria di Monticello

The land, soils and identity of Umbria

The winery of Fattoria di Monticello is located in Ripalvella, in the municipality of San Venanzo.

Here arrive the grapes cultivated across 21 hectares of vineyards, located between Ripalvella di San Venanzo and Massa Martana—two areas that are unique in terms of geological variety, exposure, and agricultural vocation.

It is from this balance between different territories that the identity of the estate’s wines takes shape: a natural duality that gives the wines complexity, depth, and a clear territorial recognisability.

Ripalvella di San Venanzo: identity and minerality

Ripalvella di San Venanzo: identity and minerality

Massa Martana: structure and balance

In the “Massa Martana area” of Fattoria di Monticello, the landscape changes, and so does the nature of the soils, which are more compact and capable of retaining moisture and nutrients.

These conditions favour slow and complete ripening, contributing to the production of more concentrated grapes.

The resulting wines are distinguished by balance, finesse, and harmony, expressing a clean and refined character, particularly suited to elegant and complex white wines.

Grechetto and Trebbiano: the native grape varieties of Umbria

In this rich and different context, native grape varieties find their fullest expression.

Il Grechetto Umbria I.G.T. The Grechetto Umbria I.G.T. is one of the region’s flagship varieties at Fattoria di Monticello. In the clay soils of Massa Martana, it best expresses its aromatic intensity, floral and fruity notes, and its naturally savoury structure.

It is a white wine that perfectly represents contemporary Umbrian identity: authentic, elegant, and deeply rooted in its territory.

Trebbiano, also cultivated in the vineyards of Massa Martana, gives life to a fresh and delicate wine, defined by balance, immediacy, and great drinkability.

A historic grape variety that here finds a renewed interpretation deeply rooted in the territory.

Pinot Noir in Umbria: a choice of character

Alongside native grape varieties, Fattoria di Monticello has also chosen to enhance Pinot Noir, one of the most complex and fascinating international varieties.

Grown in a hilly landscape with strong temperature variations between day and night, Pinot Noir finds in the soils of San Venanzo an ideal environment to express its minerality with elegance, aromatic finesse, and a structure that is delicate yet persistent.

A bold and unconventional choice that reflects the winery’s commitment to combining tradition and experimentation, always in respect of the land.
